Spears are one of the three primary Combat Units that participate in the Combat Phase of an attack on an enemy city. Spears are trainable at a player's Barracks in exchange for Resources.
Spears are archetypal combat units that use a sharpened blade fastened to the end of a pole or staff to strike at enemies from a safe distance. Spears are particularly effective at combating Cavalry. They are very weak against Archers.
